What we do
NameSign is a service that connects hearing ASL learners, interpreters, and allies with verified Deaf namers who create personalized name signs. You pay a one-time fee, a Deaf namer creates your name sign, and you receive a short video.
Who can use NameSign
You must be at least 13 years old to use NameSign. Users between 13 and 17 must have a parent or legal guardian review and approve the purchase. By completing a purchase, you confirm you meet these requirements.
What you pay for
- One name sign created by a verified Deaf namer
- A short video of your name sign with an explanation of its meaning
- Delivery within 5 business days of namer assignment
Prices do not include applicable taxes, which will be calculated at checkout based on your location.
Delivery timing
We aim to deliver your name sign video within 5 business days after a namer is assigned. Occasional delays may occur. We will notify you by email if your order exceeds this timeframe.
Refund policy
Because each name sign is custom work created by a Deaf namer, refunds are limited.
You are eligible for a full refund only if:
- You cancel within 24 hours of purchase AND no namer has been assigned to your order yet
No refunds will be issued if:
- A namer has been assigned to your order
- Your name sign has been created and delivered
- You change your mind after purchase
Name signs are personal and subjective. The namer who creates your sign is a verified Deaf person following cultural tradition. Just like you can't return a piece of custom artwork, a name sign cannot be refunded once the namer has begun work.
To request a refund within the 24-hour window, email hello@namesign.co as soon as possible.
Your content
When you submit your personal information, you give NameSign and your assigned namer permission to use it only for the purpose of creating your name sign. We do not use your content for marketing without your written permission.
Namer content
The name sign video delivered to you is yours to keep and use personally. You may share it on your personal social media. You may not resell, license, or use the video for commercial purposes without the namer's written permission.
The name sign itself is a gift given by your namer. The creative choice of handshape, location, and movement belongs to the tradition of the Deaf community.
Cultural respect
NameSign exists to honor Deaf culture, not exploit it. By using this service, you agree to:
- Respect the name sign gift and the namer who created it
- Not misrepresent your name sign as self-created
- Use your name sign in good faith within the Deaf community
NameSign reserves the right, at our sole discretion, to refuse service, refund orders, and restrict future access for users we determine are abusive, disrespectful, or acting in bad faith.
Namers are independent contractors
Deaf namers on NameSign are independent contractors, not employees. NameSign verifies each namer is Deaf and handles payment processing, but the creative work is theirs. If a disagreement arises between a customer and a namer, NameSign will mediate in good faith, but we are not responsible for the creative decisions of individual namers.
Limits on liability
NameSign provides this service as-is, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent allowed by law, NameSign is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for your order.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, USA. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Salt Lake County, Utah.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Significant changes will be emailed to customers with active orders. Continued use of NameSign after changes means you accept the updated terms.
